The Guitar (2008)
I first was very skeptical to this movie. All I've heard about it was that it was a lesbian plot somewhere in it. Which hardly makes a good movie... not always anyway. But I was wrong.Melody (Saffron Burrows) finds out she has terminal breast cancer and only has two months left to live. The same day she also get fired and dumped by her boyfriend.
She then decides to do something to change her life. She rents a loft, buy everything she wants and isolate herself from the world.
The only contact she has with the outside world is the pizza girl Cookie (Paz de la Huerta) and the delivery man Roscoe (Isaach De Bankolé). She soon starts a relationship with them both.
During about the same time she also give in for her biggest wish ever since she was a little girl. To own a 68' Fender Stratocoster (a guitar), in red. She soon realizes she's got a natural talent and the guitar is the only thing that can save her from misery and despair.
Saffrons preformance in this movie was easily the best I've seen her do, and she has done a lot of good things.
The plot wasen't that orignial, though in a way it was. It's hard to put my finger on it but something in the movie touched my heart.
Just the fact that everytime she lost something she lost it all in one day. It happend two times in the movie and it was so beautiful but still so sad.
It was also interesting how the whole movie (apart from 10 minutes in the beginning and 15 minutes in the end) took set in a apartment.
I give this movie a 7.5/10. Don't know much more to say... just if you get the chance see it. I deeply recomend it.
Not even the lesbian plot was cheesy as it often happens to be.
