Murder Island

Murder Island (2006)

This amazing teacher I had today showed this movie in class. Its a 46 minute long swedish slasher movie. And yes - its as B as it sounds...but that is not always a bad thing.

6 friends go on a camping trip together. They rent some boats and paddle out to an island where they set camp for the night. Of course things go bad and one by one they meet a stranger in the woods...
who's the killer?
who will survive?
What exactly is going on?

All the music in this movie is hard rock/metal but it works really good.
The acting kind of sucks, its very obvious they are amatures and this whole movie has a big 'we did this as our project in school' feeling over it.

Still I give this a 4/10

Beetle Juice

Beetle Juice (1988)

If you ask me for one good childhood memory it would be this movie. My mum taped it on and old VHS tape and I watched it over and over and over and over again. I am pretty sure this was where I fell in love with Geena Davis as well.

So last night me and some friends were just fed up with school and decided to watch this movie. Best idea ever.

The movie is about Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara (Geena Davis) who live in a beautiful house in New England. One day while driving home they are involved in a terrible auto accident. They manage to walk home only to discover later that they have died and now haunt their house. When their house is purchased by an out of state family, they feel their home is threatened by the over-the-top artists wife and real-estate idea-man husband. Their only relief is the Gothic daughter of the family. Their attempts at scaring the family out of the house are ignored or laughed at. Finally they fall to the temptation to use the people-exorcizer Beetle Juice. When they find his tactics too dangerous, they attempt to contain him and save the family they were trying to boot.

I should also add that this is a Tim Burton movie in every way possible. The effects are cheesy (though the movie is from 1988 so it is to be expected) but it is easily one of the funniest movies ever. It’s not meant as a horror movie (though Geena Davis’s hair is quite scary), its more humor and a real feel good movie.

I will give this a 9/10

After Sex (2007)

After Sex (2007)

It's a humorous, yet honest look at the complexity of modern day relationships told through nine separate couples.
We get to see how people comes to turn with their homosexuality, loosing their virginity, cheating, parents and their way of thinking about sex after having it.
The movie takes up all the stuff that so often is left out in modern main-stream movies. Even though it has a lot of well known actors/actresses in it they still aren't afraid to show and take up the subjects.
The dialogue is witty, funny and touching.
I really liked the Nikki (Mila Kunis) & Kat (Zoe Saldana) part of the movie. There we get to follow two roommates at college. They have just "fooled around" and then we get to follow them how they settle their buisness. I also really liked the Kristy (Natalie Marston) & Sam (Dave Franco) part- it's both their first time. Its stiff and uncomfterable as it probably is for many. And just the talk after is hilarious.

I'll give this movie a 7/10.
I didn't have any hopes for it when I first saw it but then when I watched it I got a nice surprise.

Snow Buddies (2008)

Snow Buddies (2008)

You know Air Bud? well this is the second movie about his puppies.
We get to follow Mudball, Buddha, Budderball, B-Dwag and Rosebud as they accedantly hook a ride to Alaska with an Ice-Cream shipment. There they meet Shasta who decides to help them home. But in order to get home they have to compete in a snow dog race so that they can be helped to the airport. At home Buddy and Molly (their parents) do everything to find there pupps. A sertain Miss Mittens (voice by Whoopi Goldberg) tells them about where she last saw them, robbing an ice cream van but got trapped in it.

I was a real fan of the first two Air Bud movies when I was younger. Still think they're adorable but these puppies they take the price. I mean B-Dwag who is all gangsta but is afraid of everything. Buddha that meditates all the time. This movie is so cute and funny. Perfect to the kids, and even the adults.
I'll give it a 6.8/10 . . . definatley worth a watch.

Patrik 1,5

Patrik 1,5 (2008)

Göran and Sven Skoogh is a gay married couple. They have just moved into a new neighborhood, somewhere in Sweden, where they're going to start a family. They have been passed all the tests and such that a couple (and probably more since they're a gay couple) and now awaits a child. But when they go to the child service to get the information about their child they found out there is no one to get. They are all sad and filled with misery. When Göran one day gets the mail there is a letter in it telling them that there is a child called Patrik and he's 1,5 years old and he's theirs if they want him.
When they open the door there is no little baby there. Outside a 15 year old Patrik stands. Their whole world turns upside down. Sven can't handle it and starts to drink more than usual and eventually leaves.
Göran on the other hand sees something in Patrik and they soon become friends finding a common subject in gardening.

Patrik 1,5 have a lot of twists and turns that are original and funny. It's also amazingly shot and really captures the Swedish 'Svensson' life.
Both
Gustaf Skarsgård (Göran) and Torkel Pettersson (Sven) play gay really well... but still they don't over play it as it tends to happen. Also Thomas Ljungman who plays Patrik gives a very convincing interpretation of the tortured, misunderstood teenager who only wants a family... love his hair to.

I give this movie a 7/10... definitely worth a watch. A real feel good film. I'm also a huge fan of
Ella Lemhagen who has written and directed the movie. She has done way many funny and down to earth Swedish comedies.

Fritt Vilt II

Fritt Vilt II (2008)

Or as we call it, the return of the Långegutten (tall scary Norwegian man) and of course Elin... ooh we meant Jannicke.
We have been obsessed by the first movie forever. We even has got our nicks from the first one. Elin is Jannicke, tashe cool slightly crazy awesome chick who kills the långegutten twice and revived him once in between. Emelie played Ingunn in the first movie. She looked like Lord Voldermort’s Norwegian daughter, but strangely enough she was way hotter dead than alive. Helene played Ingunn's boyfriend Mikal, an idiot. We have some more in the group, but since Jannicke (Elin) was the only one who survived us going to jump straight to the second movie where Elin reprise her crazy role . . . but more vicious.

The movie starts with Emelie’s new character called Camilla, a nurse with an scary afro. She is examinating an old lady who we believe Helene will fall in love with. Everything seems to be okay with the old lady. We get to find out that the hospital is closing down. Camilla has a scary boyfriend who apparently looks a bit like Emelie’s dad in his young days. Ole as he's called has been called out to check out a abandon car who turns out to be the one that the gang from the first movie came in. He checks it out then head back to the village. On the way there he almost run down a still standing, but not movable Jannicke with an Ice pick. Through very awesomely shoot scenes and pictures she collapses there on the road.
She wakes up at the hospital, telling the cops what happened and so on. The police get to the mountain where it all happened. They find all the dead bodies and bring them back to the morgue at the hospital to defrost. We get to see a very half naked but still gorgeous Ingunn who is drenched in blood.
Camilla who feels sorry for Jannicke brings her down to the morgue so she can say goodbye. This is when she brings the Långegutten back to life accidently buy punching him in the heart in her rage. I mean beating up dead, but not so dead, långeguttar isn't that good. Especially not if it's a horror movie.
Stuff happens people die... the ending is spectacular.

We don't know what more to say... 9/10 this movie is wwwaaayyyy close to make our "movie I’ll kill for" which is just pretty weird since that's what the movie is about.... Killing people... right?
The way the movie is shoot is just WOW, like for an example. They use mirrors, reflections and the light to play tricks on us. They especially use the disappear in the dark' things.
Both Jannicke (
Ingrid Bolsø Berdal) and Camilla (Marthe Snorresdotter Rovik) has awesome comical, but not meant to be comical, timing. The soundtrack is pretty much as good as the first movie. The ending credits song in the first movie was like the best ever... this was a close run.

Bloody Mallory (2002)

Bloody Mallory (2002)

After founding out her husband was a demon, and slayed him their blood mixed together. Mallory (Olivia Bonamy) is now a secret service agent specialized on paranormal happenings and beings. When the pope, who is trying to make a new witch hunt, gets kidnapped by a mysterious group of people Mallory gets the job to find him.
With her two friends, Vena Cava an transvestite specialized in explosives and Talking Tina a pre-teen telepath with the ability of possesing others. Together they start a journey who will change the world... maybe.

When I (Elin) first read about this movie I was very sceptical. It sounded alot like a cross between Underworld and Buffy.
And my guesses wasen't that far from, it's like a french version of them but worse. The acting is good, the effects are great but still the movie is not that good. The story is okey but it's something that just don't klick with me.
They walk through ghouls, vampires, succubus, demons and what ever other creature you can imagine... I usually likes this kind of stuff but this was just okey.

I'll give the movie a 4/10, it's worth a watch if you don't have anything better to do... but don't buy it, don't rent it, don't put any kind of money on it.
Although I loved Mallorys outfit and her hair.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno

Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008)

Zack and Miri have known each other since first grade. They share an apartment with unpaid bills coming out of their ears. After going to their high school reunion Zack and Miri comes up with the perfect solution to their money problems. They should make a porn film.
So they set out finding a cast and a place to shoot the movie. Things go wrong and they end up shooting the movie at the coffee store where Zack works.
Through out the process of making the movie Zack and Miri find out that maybe they are not just friend after all…

Being a big fan of Kevin Smith I had high expectations for this. I would say it’s not the same as Mallrats or any of his other movies, its good but not his best. As all his movies this is a funny comedy with odd twists and dirty jokes.

Elizabeth banks (Miri) and Seth Rogen (Zack) and both fun and really in their roles. Great acting all around (except for the porno scenes which are not supposed to be good) and I would definitely recommend it to other Kevin Smith fans.

I would give this a 7/10.

The Woods

The Woods (2006)

In 1965, after provoking a fire in a forest, the rebel teenager Heather Fasulo is sent to the boarding school Falburn Academy in the middle of the woods by her estranged mother Alice Fasulo and her neglected father Joe Fasulo. The dean Ms. Traverse accepts Heather in spite of the bad financial condition of her father. The displaced Heather becomes close friend of the weird Marcy Turner, while they are maltreated by the abusive mate Samantha Wise. During the nights, Heather has nightmares and listens to voices from the woods, and along the days she believes that the school is a coven of witches. When some students, including Marcy, simply vanish, Heather believes she will be the next one…

This movie has some serious b-effects but it also has something special. Something that draws you in and won’t let go until you finish. It’s definitely a movie I would recommend people to watch.
The acting was really quite good, but it does have some major names in it so that shouldn’t be a surprise. Patricia Clarkson for one, she plays the part of Ms. Traverse, a nice surprise since I always thought she was a great actress.
Agnes Bruckner did a pretty good job on playing Heather and she really made the character easy to feel for.

IMDB

I would give this movie a 6/10, could have been better but it was fun to watch.

- Emelie, off to lunch.
