Red Doors

Red Doors (2005)

Is about a a bizarrely dysfunctional Chinese-American family. The father has just retired from his work and now suffers a depression. The youngest daughter have a sick and twisted game with the boy next door.
The Middle daughter is a medical student studying to become a doctor. But when a moviestar comes to the hospital she falls in love.
The eldest daughter is just weeks away from getting married with a man she is not really in love with.
But when the dad after a series of suicide attempts disappear they start to rethink there life and try to find there path.

I found this movie refreshingly new and nice. I really liked that they mixed the romance and serious with a splash of humor.
I also love when they mix cultures in movies, and this is no exception. It was really nicely told and really good acting.
Not even the lesbian plot where badly made. I thought it was very believable. It is not often that happens in a movie with so much other stuff around. But in this one they managed.

I would have to give this movie a 8/10 for its nicely written and told story. For not being cliche and most importantly really making me smile unconsciously.
