White Oleander

White Oleander (2002),
is based on the book with the same name by Janet Fitch.
It's about this Astrid Magnussen, who after her mother kills her lover get placed in foster care. We get to follow her though a very nice and to many bad foster homes.
Elin who have read the book and love the movie gets abit annoyed that they left out some of the more intense scenes, parts and storylines from the book...
In the movie they tone it down and skip the worse foster home, this doesn't make the movie less interesting. It's still a very beautiful and intense story about a young girl who can't do anything about anything. About growing up and finding out who you are and that everything you once thought you knew where wrong.
We get to see this young girl get shoot, see her foster mom commit suicide and her growing up to a independent woman.

The performances in the movie are incredible. Some of the actresses in it are amongs Michelle Pfeiffer, Alison Lohman, Robin Wright Penn and Renée Zellweger.
We really recommend this movie (and the book)..
